Professor Li Xiaozhen of the Department of Bridge Engineering paid a visit to Australia for academic exchanges

Release Date: 2019-03-25

Funded by China Scholarship Council, Professor Li Xiaozhen, deputy director of the Department of Bridge Engineering, has paid a visit to Professor Hong Hao’s research group in Curtin University in Australia as a senior visiting scholar for academic exchanges , from February 16, 2019 to March 16, 2019. Currently, Professor Hong Hao is the director of the Research Centre for Infrastructure Monitoring and Protection in Curtin University, Vice-President of the International Association of Protective Structures, Chair Professor of “the Yangtze River Scholar”, oversea winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. In 2016, he was elected as an academician of the Australian Academy of Technology, Science and Engineering.

On the afternoon of February 22, Professor Li participated in the Seminar, regularly held by teachers and students in Professor Hong Hao’s research group, and delivered a lecture on Wind Shielding Effect of Pylon on Aerodynamic Coefficients and Running Safety of High-speed Train. Meanwhile, he also listened to the wonderful lectures given by two doctoral students and a visiting scholar in the group. In relation to the lectures, hot issues in Bridge and Structure Engineering such as coupling vibration of railway wind- train-bridge, vibration and control of wind power structure, and new type of vibration isolator, were discussed by all participants.Professor Hong Hao made brilliant comments and summary at the end of the Seminar.

Invited by Professor Zhu Xinqun, Professor Li paid a brief visit to Sydney University of Science and Technology from February 27 to 28. On the morning of the 27th, Professor Li gave an academic lecture on "Tower Shielding Effect on Aerodynamic Parameters and Running Safety of Moving Train" and conducted academic exchanges with Professor S. S. Law from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, who was visiting Sydney University of Science and Technology at the same time, and Professor Wu Chengqing, Associate Professor Li Wengui, Doctor Li Jun from Department of Civil and Environmental Sciences in Sydney University of Science and Technology and Doctor Hu Gang from Sydney University. They had a heated discussion on the study of the aerodynamic coupling mechanism of high-speed train-bridge system under crosswind. All the teachers expressed their hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in future scientific research projects and jointly improve the academic level of both teams.

Accompanied by Associate Professor Li Wengui, Professor Li Xiaozhen visited the Engineering Technology Laboratory of Sydney University of Science and Technology and called on Professor Sheng Daichao, dean of the Institute of Technology in Sydney University of Science and Technology on the morning of the 28th.
